UPDATE: New offer out to A.J. Hotchkins...

Washington State has offered Riverside (Calif.) C.C. linebacker A.J. Hotchkins, he announced on Twitter. It's the first Pac-12 offer for the 6-foot, 230-pound inside linebacker, who also holds offers from Bowling Green, Idaho, North Texas, Southern Miss, Texas State and Western Kentucky.

Hotchkins was a name that was thrown around on the boards quite a bit over the last few months. When the Cougars lost a few linebacker commits in the previous class (Tezino, Moi and Rudinski), some posters, including Fro, who's been singing his praises for some time, thought Hotchkins would be a solid late addition. However, I spoke with the unrated linebacker, who told me he was returning to Riverside C.C. for his sophomore season following an All-American season as a freshman.

The Tigard (Ore.) product originally signed with Wyoming as a member of the 2014 class, but instead decided to go the JUCO route, gambling on his ability to perform at the JUCO level and then landing at a larger school down the road. Grades were also a risk coming out of high school, though they appear to have been improved and his gamble looks to be paying off.

The Cougars have had a lot of success at Riverside lately. They signed Jeremiah Mitchell and Treshon Broughton out of the JUCO powerhouse last cycle and also, at one point, held commitments from DeVante Wilson (Cal) and Jonah Moi (Oregon).

WSU Medical School bill approved by Senate

This could end up being one of the most historic days for WSU, as the State Legislature finally passed a bill paving the way for a new WSU Med School in Spokane.

Now, this won't change our geographic challenges on the field of play, but it will unquestionably elevate the academic reputation of our University, and perhaps most importantly of all, it will raise the stature of WSU in the eyes of the Inland NW, Northern ID, Montana, and even Wyoming.

I've been in medical device sales for 25+ years and have worked closely with all of the area hospitals. For me, this is one of the biggest announcements for our University that I can remember.

UPDATE: A couple new junior day visitors + updates...

Riverside (Calif.) King TE/DE Tyler Krepsz and Encino (Calif.) Crespi CB Anthonie Doxey will be in Pullman for the Cougars' junior day event at the end of the month. Both prospects are looking for their first offers. Krepsz is the younger brother of Washington State offensive lineman Sean Krepsz.

Notes

-Rohnert Park (Calif.) Rancho Cotate WR Chris Taylor-Yamanoha, who was expected to visit for the Cougars' junior day event, will now visit on April 6 instead. The three-star wide receiver will be in town with El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge QB Ian Book.

Taylor-Yamanoha's father tells WW that the two are close friends. They've competed against each other on the NorCal camp circuit throughout the years. The receiver says he wants to head up a weekend after junior day as to have more time with the coaching staff. He holds offers from Boise State, Cal, Louisville, Oregon State, Utah and several others.

UPDATE: New offer out to Hawaii OL...

Washington State has offered Kapolei (HI) OL Toleafoa Sean Auwae, he announced on Twitter. The 6-foot-3, 296-pound offensive guard prospect won offensive line MVP honors at The Opening: Los Angeles today.

In addition to Washington State, Auwae holds offers from Idaho State and Texas Tech. The Red Raiders also offered today. Coach Salave'a briefly recruited Auwae's older brother, William, in the 2015 class, though he ended up at Utah State.

UPDATE: QB Ian Book to visit in April...

Could Mike Leach be close to landing his quarterback for the 2016 recruiting class? It's looking that way. El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge QB Ian Book, who picked up an offer from Leach and the Cougars on Friday, has an unofficial visit set up to Pullman for April 6.

Book, rated three-stars by Rivals, is the No. 19 overall pro-style quarterback in the country, and the No. 58 prospect in California for the 2016 class. In addition to Washington State, Book holds offers from Boise State, Idaho, San Diego and UNLV.

Todays game

So, as it looks, if we win, we will play California and then a win would get us Arizona. A loss would put us against Oregon State and then a win would get us Utah. I can't say I would ever want to see the Cougars lose, or advocate trying to lose, even more so on senior day but it does seem like an easier road in the PAC 12 tourney.

Reading Between the Lines

I can't get the link to The video from CEK's post game interview but it's available from Thorpe's blog.

When discussing DKD's development he mentions that he wishes he could have had him as a freshman as he feels he would be further along. He may have been talking about his leadership ability. I'm not sure. I don't think Ernie would intentionally bag on the old regime but I read it is a knock on the old staff. Just further confirmation what so many already know.

*** UPDATE: New QB offer out in NorCal... ***

Washington State has offered El Dorado Hill (Calif.) Oak Ridge QB Ian Book, he announced on his Twitter account. The 6-foot, 171-pound quarterback is rated three-stars by Rivals and the No. 19 pro-style quarterback in the 2016 class.

In addition to Washington State, Book holds offers from Boise State, Idaho, San Diego and UNLV. Book, ranked the No. 58 overall prospect in California, threw for 2,025 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a junior for Oak Ridge. As a sophomore, he tossed for 2,558 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Book is your prototypical pro-style passer, however he has some mobility and can elude pressure to extend the play, Rivals' Justin Rowland says. His overhand motion is solid and he has a strong arm with a lot of velocity on his passes. As is key in the Air Raid offense, he is always keeping his head down field, looking for open receivers, even when facing pressure. His ability to make throws outside the pocket is another plus.

The only knock you could put on him at this point -- and probably the reason he's not higher rated - is his size, but he can overcome that, and it's not necessarily a staple to be big as a quarterback in Leach's offense.
