2015 recruiting class size: I think Leach goes all in...

Here's my rough math, based on my knowledge of what you can do:

1. You can only give 25 new scholarships in a year.
and
2. Protect 25 (up to 28 if they gray-shirt) with an LOI. The LOI period is Dec-May.

Hillinski does not count as an LOI because he is enrolled and signed his financial aid agreement over the summer. Singleton had an signed LOI last year. These two will count towards the 25 new scholarships for the fall...assuming all the spots last year were taken (their is word they were).

Edit: Kyrin Priester, the Clemson transfer, who is listed on the student directory, is another that won't potentially count towards the LOI number as he signed his financial aid agreement prior to December.

That means 23 kids can enroll in the fall. The remaining will be gray-shirts.

I fully believe Leach will get as close to 28 LOIs as he can. The class size, with Hillinski, might be 29. That potentially means having 5 guys delay enrollment, or, being part-time students on their own dime.

That means the 2016 class, arguably, will probably be closer to around 20 kids, maybe more if we get a few gray-shirts.

What this tells me is, Leach knows his window to win is very short and he's doing everything he can to get as much talent in the doors as possible.

WSU commits, targets in West Coast Bowl...

Several Washington State commits and targets will be playing in the 2015 West Coast Bowl presented by B2G Sports. The game will be played on January 25 in Downey, Calif., and the coaches for the two teams will be Randy Moss and Terrell Owens.

Washington State commits Eddie Rudinski and Kameron Powell will be lining up on the same defense for the first time. The two three-star verbal commits are playing for Team Impact coached by Owens. Three-star receiver Lavan Alston, who visited Washington State last weekend, will also be suiting up for Team Impact.

Playing for Team Speed coached by Moss is two-star offensive line commit Cedric Bigge Duren and recent USC de-commit Taeon Mason. Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral defensive end Simi Moala, who visited early in the season, will also suit up for Team Speed, though he's visiting Oregon State this weekend, so he may not be participating.

So who's left for this class?

There's no way for me to know who really has an offer from WSU but these are the players that have WSU "high" on their list, still.

Marcus Lewis 4star DB out of Washington DC--- already visited Oct. 2014
Darreyl Patterson 3star DB out of Lawton OK--- visiting 1-30-15
Taeon Mason 4star DB out of Pasadena CA--- already visited Nov. 2014
Sihiem King 3star RB out of Moultrie GA--- visiting 1-23-15
William (Amu) Auwae 2star OL out of Honolulu HI--- No visit planned

That would mean 30 in this class, which can't happen. Either there are 2 here that want to come, and won't. Or there are 2 players that have currently committed and are going to have their offer pulled. This is also assuming we utilize the gray shirt method to the fullest extent for the 2016 class.

Do we all realize, we have 5 DB's committed, with the potential of 3 more coming in, at least according to the above "interest"?!! WOW!!!

Where does Washington rank

In terms of talent in the country for high school kids? I'll say Washington is about 40th in the country producing football players. Washington produced maybe, what 15 Power 5 kids in the entire state this year and this might have been one of the better years? Do I want to keep kids in state? Yea, but if they are going to Bellevue and Lakes, they aren't coming to WSU. The only player that came from Lakes had more stats on his police report than he did on the field and the only player that we got from Bellevue saw more green off the field then on. WSU just will never be a destination school for kids on the westside of the state. But I also laugh this whole "fence around the state" crap and praise being throw at Petersen. Honestly, Gilby and Ty recruited top players from the state, so what Petersen is doing is nothing special. I'm just wondering how good some of these kids will be if you threw them down in some of the LA leagues.

UPDATE: Wazzu commits in final rankings...

There wasn't a lot of good news in terms of movement for Washington State commits in the final Rivals.com positional rankings and none of the Cougars' two- or three-star commits saw their stars or rating improve, but they didn't drop in stars, either.

For the majority of the Washington State commits, their positional ranking dropped after committing while others were never evaluated or didn't make the cut. Personally, I'd focus on the offer sheets and recruit rating of the Cougars' 25 commits, which feature mostly Power 5 offers.

Washington State commits in finals Rivals.com positional rankings

-City of San Francisco (Calif.) safety Shalom Luani: NR -> NR
-Riverside (Calif.) C.C. defensive end Jeremiah Mitchell: NR -> NR
-Petaluma (Calif.) Casa Grande kicker Matt Abramo: NR -> NR

-Oceanside (Calif.) offensive tackle Cedric Bigge-Duren: NR -> NR
-Riverside (Calif.) C.C. cornerback Treshon Broughton: NR -> NR
-Gardena (Calif.) Serra wide receiver Deontay Burnett: No. 58 - No. 59 (-1 spot)

-Norwalk (Calif.) defensive tackle Dillon Faamatau: NR - NR
-Moore (OK) Westmoore wide receiver Dahu Green: No. 45 -> No. 49 (-4 spots)
-Upland (Calif.) quarterback Tyler Hilinski: No. 9 - No. 10 (-1 spot)

-Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon defensive end Hunter Mattox: NR -> NR
-Riverside (Calif.) C.C. inside linebacker Jonah Moi: NR -> NR
-Temecula (Calif.) cornerback Darrien Molton: NR -> NR

-Walnut Creek (Calif.) Las Lomas offensive guard Noah Myers: No. 41 -> No. 43 (-2 spots)
-Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe offensive tackle Davis Perrott: NR -> NR
-Norwalk (Calif.) Cerritos C.C. inside linebacker Aaron Porter: NR -> NR

-Upland (Calif.) safety Kameron Powell: No. 38 -> No. 40 (-2 spots)
-Redlands (Calif.) East Valley offensive tackle Joseph Price: NR -> NR
-Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian inside linebacker Eddie Rudinski: No. 23 -> No. 25 (-2 spots)

-Pago Pago (A.S.) Tafuna offensive guard Amosa Sakaria: NR -> NR
-Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic wide receiver Kyle Sweet: NR -> NR
-Spring (TX) cornerback Willie Sykes: NR -> NR

-Pago Pago (A.S.) Samoana linebacker Logan Tago: NR -> NR
-Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian outside linebacker Kyahva Tezino: No. 21 -> No. 19 (+2 spots)
-Mountain View (Calif.) St. Francis defensive tackle Thomas Toki: No. 20 -> No. 21 (-1 spot)
-Burbank (Calif.) running back James Williams: No. 51 -> No. 53 (-2 spots)

As a side note, these positional rankings are heavily weighted by additional evaluation periods during post-season bowl games. Washington State only had one commit play in a bowl game - Kyahva Tezino in the Semper Fi Bowl - and his ranking was reflected by that inclusion, most likely.

UPDATE: Late push for Rivals250 WR...

According to Rivals analyst Jason Howell, Washington State is making a late push for Dallas (TX) Skyline Rivals250 receiver Carlos Strickland. The four-star prospect is rated the No. 12 receiver and No. 132 overall prospect in the country.

California, Texas Tech, UCLA and Texas are also in the mix for Strickland, who has officially visited Cal, Texas Tech and UCLA, whom he visited last weekend. Skyline recruiter coordinator Eric Mims says Washington State has made a push lately.

"He has talked to Washington State about going on a visit," Mims said. "I'm not sure if he's going to. I don't think he's really interested in any of those other schools who have and sold that pitch to him. I think the two he's considered would be Texas and Washington State.

"I'm not sure if he's going to actually do either of those and just make a decision from that pool of Texas Tech, UCLA, and Cal or if he's going to actually go out to Texas this weekend with (Anthony) Wheeler. I'm not sure right now."

Strickland previously committed to Texas Tech, and it appears the Red Raiders are still in contention. He's reportedly going to be making a college decision on January 27, which is next Tuesday, so the Cougars will likely have to get him on a plane to Washington State this weekend to have a chance to sway him late.

"Carlos is kind of a secretive kid. He said the 27th is the big day," Mims said. "He kept everybody guessing the first time when he committed to Texas Tech and kept everyone shocked. He enjoyed California when he was there to visit Cal.

"He enjoyed California when he was there for the Semper Fi Bowl. He said he enjoyed UCLA. He likes California. I don't know if that's going to be the tipping point, but he likes being on the West Coast."

Notes:
It appears Washington State is taking another receiver in this class, as they are still after Lavan Alston and George Wilson. The staff, including Mike Leach, had an in-home visit with Alston last night and they'll visit Wilson tonight.

Britton!! Dude!!!

you're tearing it up! There was a couple of times someone has asked me if I'd be interested in possibly doing one of these sites and I'd have to say that the job you are doing is what I'd aspire to be. You are doing an awesome job and I hope you prosper and we get to keep you as long as possible. If I were Rivals (and of course I'm not) I'd set you up with a partner like Braulio (sp) and just let you two have at it. Podcast...spots wherever and you'd really have something fresh for the next decade. Invite some regular/long time posters to call in or in studio and you'd capture "the intrigue" that many paying members have for for these websites. I'd guess an episode with YakiCoug or CougEd would draw quite a few view count. Have them on together and you'd have a WSU poster Super Bowl. There's many very knowledgeable and insightful fans that are members or who post on a regular basis.

I am having a hard time finding the 25 players from last year

Andre, Bender, Canada, Dillard, Evers, Fernandez, Green, Griffin, Hameed, Harrington, Hoyd, Krepz, Luvu, Mata'afa, Porter, Singleton, Tapa, and Ware. Pippins, Leniu and Farrar were late additions. There is also Begg and Hanser. Canty signed, but never stepped foot on campus.

I even went back a few years because as we know, January enrollee's can be applied to either the current or prior year. I may be missing someone I guess.

I'm glad I watch the Pac-12 Networks football report

Thank you, Rick "I'm paid by the word" Neuheisel and Ronnie Lott. I had no idea new DC Alex Grinch and AC Roy Manning aren't going to be allowed to practice defense at WSU. I suppose all those coaches from Mike Leach's coaching tree also don't allow defenses to practice. Neuheisel is a smart guy, but at times he's simply more of a smart ass. And Ronnie Lott? The guy devalues a USC degree (did he ever get one?) every time he opens his mouth.
At least Slick didn't tell us all again that HE was the one who recruited Brett Hundley.
