New Wazzu offer out in CA...

Washington State has offered Los Angeles (Calif.) Hawkins defensive end Ramsey Nnamani. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defensive lineman is an under-the-radar guy who is being recruited by Ken Wilson.

I'm working on gathering more information on Nnamani right now, though I know he's been on the Cougars' radar for some time.

Where would WSU be if Wulff had just finished his 7th year?

Even three years after his firing, there remains a sizable contingent of WSU supporters who think the program would be no worse off if Paul Wulff was still running the show.

Actually heard this over and over from a number of Cougs since Thanksgiving weekend.

Mike Leach's resume in Pullman is what it is: 7-20 in Pac-12 play ... a .1-2 record in the Apple Cup ... a .500 regular-season capped by a inexplicable loss in the New Mexico Bowl in 2013.

So a question: How would the Cougs have fared the past three years with CPW at the helm?

Could Wulff have won 25 percent of his conference games, made it to a minor bowl, gotten his second victory over Washington and "finished" better than 12th/10th/12th in the Pac-12 recruiting rankings by Rivals.com?

In hindsight, was CPW's tenure maybe not as bad as some have made it out to be?

Vic Koenning

a guy that everyone was drooling over as a defensive coordinator when he was at Illinois and had a top 10 defense- is now available. No longer a hot commodity as North Carolina is currently rated 115th in defense. Now...becoming the DC at Troy St (not kidding) is a possibility according to all the sources available to CoachesScoop. The coaching world is often times as unpredictable as the stock market.

Also, on the heels of someone from the previous coaching staff being fired...is Jody Sears getting a contract extension after Sacramento St went 7-5 this year. Congrats to Jody.

BX seems to be going "anti-Leach" lately

Pieces from Monroe's dad (sour grapes) and Sorenson (a Wulff fan) seems to be painting a picture of Leach being a stubborn tyrant who deserves the same level of accountablity that Wulff did.

Also more defense of Wulff saying how bad the program was in with Doba at the helm. Accusations of wide-spread drug use, poor strength program, academic issues continue to be thrown against Doba and used for an excuse for Wulff.

What the Wulff supporters don't want to admit is his "right way" of recruiting and program development really just put the program into a stall for 4 years.

I don't agree with all of Leach's views, but I think he's a hell of a lot better than what we had and will ge the job done.

Dukes David Cutcliffe turned down Michigan

How times have changed. Michigan is no longer an "It" program. They are kind of like the uw has been for the last several decades. They are only elite in their own minds now. The state itself is not producing players like they once had do to the economic troubles of the state. They have not been able to fund the schools and the football programs like they once had, so it has not been as much of a feeder to UM as it once had.

This relates to WSU as David Cutcliffe took over a poor program in Duke. In conference, his first four years were 1-7, 3-5, 1-7, and 1-7. This season they are now going to their 3rd bowl in a row. Did you notice how the second year was the best of the four? Then, it appeared the team took a step back? Of course, in hindsight they didn't take a step back at all. The first four years were just setting a foundation for future success.

Prospects to watch w/ Andersen leaving Wiscy...

With Gary Andersen leaving Wisconsin, he'll likely be reaching out to current Badger commits to head to Corvallis with him, however Washington State was in on several current Wisconsin commits, which are listed below.

-Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive tackle Olive Sagapolu committed to Wisconsin over an offer from Washington State in late October. The three-star has already officially visited Washington State.

-West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade wide receiver Brandyn Lee committed to Wisconsin over offers from Fresno State, Nevada and Washington State. Lee's main recruiter, however, was Paul Volero, who was let go recently. Dennis Simmons was also recruiting the three-star receiver, so he's another name to watch for down the line.

-San Marcos (Calif.) offensive tackle Kevin Estes is another Wisconsin commit who holds a Washington State offer. The Cougars were one of the first program to offer the No. 37 offensive tackle in the country, who also holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, BYU, California, Duke, San Diego State, Utah and several others.

Other: Washington State has also offered Sagapolu's teammates, Kyle Penniston, a four-star tight end who could also play on the defensive side.

Hamza Abdullah on WSU football...

Former Washington State safety Hamza Abdullah took to Twitter today to share some passionate thoughts on the state of the Cougar football program and what he thinks needs to happen to turn things around.

@HamzaAbdullah21's on WSU football

"The problem with Washington State football is a lack of pride," Abdullah tweeted. "I'm not in the building or around the team on a daily basis but I'm just saying from what I see on the outside and how we play. I wonder if the team even knows what Cougar pride is.

"How would they know? Who would show them and school them on what it means to have Cougar Pride? I thought Jason Gesser coming back to Pullman would help in that, but it seems like we're not using him at all. That doesn't make any sense.

"Gesser needs to have an expanded role with the team and we need more COUGS in the building. I'm not a proponent of firing people because I don't see how you can get better by subtraction. We need additions. We need people around the team who the players respect and trust.

"Watching the Apple Cup made me sick to my stomach. It's like we didn't even care. It was just another game. [Senior year], I didn't go [to] a bowl game, so we treated the Apple Cup like like our bowl game. We banded together and laid it on the line for our teammates.

"We understood what it meant to put that gray helmet on, to wear the Cougar logo and to represent for everyone who's ever worn the Cougar logo. I'm saying this because I care, just as everyone else does. I'm not a guy to sit back and complain, I want to help in any way I can.

"I think we need to get more Cougs involved and allow Jason Gesser to be a leader and show the team what Cougar Pride is. We need Cougar Pride to be a staple in our program. Here's to the ascension of our program."

Whew: Coug women.......

I'll admit it. I was so frustrated watching the women play Gonzaga I stopped watching with about 7 minutes left and down about 8 points. The reffing was brutal and I felt there was no way they would ever overcome that and a pretty good Zag team. I just had to tune back in for the final seconds and somehow the Cougs had gotten a 1 point lead and Galderia went to the line, made two, for a 3 point lead with 6.9 on the clock. Lo and behold, the Zags dribbled it down for a layup with 0 seconds on the clock and a final score of 59-58. Only in the women's game could such a scenario unfold.

Update on DaVante Wilson...

According to a source, Riverside (Calif.) C.C. defensive end DaVante Wilson may still visit California this weekend and his commitment to Washington State, which occurred during an official visit with two teammates last weekend, may be soft.

The source cites the fact that he has a newborn and moving his wife and child up to Washington could be a bit much while also indicating that Wilson's father wasn't exactly thrilled that his son made the commitment in the first place. I'll reach out for more.

Four-star CB Marcus Lewis...

Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga cornerback Marcus Lewis will announce his top three schools at 5 p.m., he announced on Twitter moments ago. The four-star, rated the No. 6 cornerback in the country, has officially visited Washington State (10/3) and has trips set up to Kentucky (12/12), Ole Miss (1/23) and Miami (1/30).

Defensive alignment...

So, there's so many different ways to run the D. With a new D-coord coming in, it seems like we might be changing. So what will it be?

4-3
3-4
4-2-5
3-3-5

Watching TCU for quite a while and I see how their D scheme works pretty well but it's all about personnel at the time. Thoughts? If we could have whatever we want, what do you think will work the best in the PAC?

Hunter Mattox...

Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon defensive end Hunter Mattox was visited by Washington State coach Jim Mastro tonight and the three-star will officially visit Pullman this weekend.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound lineman is currently committed to Oregon State but that situation is obviously in flux and so the Cougars have a chance to make a move on yet another Beaver commit this weekend. In addition to Oregon State, Mattox holds an offer from Fresno State.
