#13 AP

Highest rank since #10 in 2018. And #5 on ESPN’s Heisman list for Ward.

I realize Biggs can’t see it but Mik has his back. He’ll explain it to him!
And when somebody comes knockin' at $5.0M or $6.0M a year, the market has spoken, and the market doesn't lie.

I called the #13 ranking out exactly.

So much for WSU falling to about #22, like a couple predicted.

The thing that's frustrating about coaches is how short sighted that some of these decisions are. WSU has fired only one coach for lack of performance in the past 50 years and that was Paul Wulff. Walden was kind of shoved towards the door and Sweeney resigned rather than be fired...but we don't have a long history of firing coaches. Rolovich doesn't count because COVID was just stupid.

Michigan State has fired five coaches in the same time frame. When you look at their coaching history, Nick Saban is the only one who moved on from Michigan State and enjoyed extended success. It's not a job that you go to as a step to continue your career.

We'll see. This doesn't feel like the right time for Dickert to leave and MSU doesn't seem like a great situation, but it's closer to his home and there's something to be said for that.

It'll be interesting to see the final line. But to open at 3.5 shows the rankings are meaningless.
I figured UCLA would be favored by a couple. We all know this but Vegas sets the line to get equal betting on both sides, not necessarily what they think the final score will be. I’d say toss up to slight Cougs favorite …think we win a close one again. Then again UCLA has a freshman QB, we get some pressure on him it could spiral for them quickly if we get some early turnovers.

It would be foolish for Dickert to take the MSU job. Under resourced against PSU, OSU and Michigan every year will take a lot of shine off his resume. Plenty of other schools can jump up and bite him each year as well. He's taking himself out of the running for a job like Wisconsin (or any other premiere program). If he wins in Pullman for a few more years, he'll be able to take his pick of blue blood programs.

But how can you think straight or have peace if you don't have a Power 5 schedule for next year....let alone quesitioning if there's money to retain his current salary, or take a cut in pay, and layoff staff?

Now....if the financial windfall is there for the Pac 2....perhaps there's money to retain him and all the coaches....but if you're not in a Power 5 conference in 2024 or 2025....he may be tempted to bolt to the Big 10.

Sure....Michigan State is Michigan State, (current dumpster fire) but just like Leach....bolt to the SEC, even though it's Mississippi State. You're still a coach in the SEC and you're still a head football coach in the B1G, the top Conferences in all of College Football, (EXCEPT THIS YEAR)! ;)

He’s worried about this year as he should be. Next year is out of his control. People aren’t going to just forget about what he did this year in possibly the best P5 conference in the country and relegate him to a G5 coach if we end up playing in the MWC or having a MWC schedule next year. That’s not how any of this works. So if he does aspire to be at a “blue blood” which I don’t think MSU is anyways, it’s not like this window is his only shot. He’s smart enough he knows that.

Michigan St isn't the best job that will be open this year. No reason to jump midseason.

Also, at this point it’s highly likely that WSU is a bowl team. Historically, taking WSU to a “good” bowl looks pretty good on a coach’s resume.

Change to almost GUARANTEED.

WSU only needs to win 2 more games.

WSU is NOT going to finish 5-7, and go 1-7 the rest of season, to miss a bowl.
