Coug1990, I've had similar thoughts.
When my OSU Beavers go on the road to play football at places like Michigan, Ohio State, and LSU, we get PAID $1M to $1.5M by the home team. (Never heard of getting $2M for one of those games...)
When the Beavers host Idaho State, Portland State, Sacramento State, etc, for a football game, we pay them around $300K to $500K for their visit.
The PAC-12 is paying the Mountain West $14M for 12 games this season, 6 home and 6 away. Neither the Beavers or the Cougars are getting paid for visiting their stadiums (for the 6 road games that are part of the 2024 scheduling agreement).
For the Cougars' $7M, the Cougars get home games with Hawaii, Utah State, and Wyoming. Oh, baby, what a schedule.
For the Beaver' $7M, the Beavers get home games with UNLV, Colorado State, and San Jose State. Arguably a better group of teams than the Cougars', but not worth $7M.
For $14M, the PAC-12 did not get a visit from the MWC's best brands, Boise State, Fresno State, or SDSU.
MWC commissioner Gloria Nevarez did not try to partner with the PAC-12 on this scheduling agreement. Rather, she knew we didn't have a realistic second option, so she took full advantage of us.
