For a school and program that has suffered such a loss as TH, I don't know how you pick up the pieces and move forward. Having been a coach, I am genuinely at a loss as to how you pull your locker room together and help kids heal their broken hearts. I have no idea how a new President handles the loss and impact on his student body having lost a kid like TH. It is an overwhelming path to take.

Enter Gardner Minshew. This kid shows up out of who knows where Mississippi. He has no stats. Not much else but a positive attitude and a f*cking mustache. Lights WSU on fire. He f*cking lights WSU and the league on fire! Swagger and a 'stache! Wing and a prayer!

He is the person that walks in front of the judges on American Idol and leaves them with jaws floored, everyone looking around like "where the hell did this guy come from???"

The impact that he has had and is having, the positivity, is not by chance.

This young man was HEAVEN SENT, hand picked by WSU's shepherd Elson Floyd still guarding his flock!!!

You watch, this may wind up in Pasadena.

He really is. He's a natural born leader with some serious swag. As Oregon crept back in and all of us lifetime Cougs started thinking "uh oh" (admit it, you did!) he just said F-it and took over. He has ZERO history with this program - which oddly enough - I think is a huge positive. Love this guy.

Minshew has been amazing, not only his ability as a football player but as a leader and a person. He has that "it" factor that is so hard to define, and so difficult to find. This team should get to 9 wins, maybe even 10, 11, 12, or even 13 with a bowl win, I don't care who you are, no one came close to predicting that, after all that happened in the off season. The staff and the players said they would dedicate this season to TH, yet they have agreed not talk about it. The Helsinki family was concerned Tyler would be forgotten, however if this thing does end up in Pasadena like Biggs suggested. This team will go down in football history as one of the greatest accomplishments of all time, not only in Cougar football, but all of college football, and this will assure the family Tyler will never be forgotten. So if all that happens, I do believe there is a higher power behind all this. They could start selling Blues Brother's T's " on a mission from God"

I will say that this is the best I've seen a coug qb play since Leaf. He has put up amazing numbers not just vs the bottom feeder defenses, really solid defenses. He hasn't had one bad game. Kid has tons of charisma and its infectious. So fun to watch!! I'll be curious to see if this opens a door to a grad transfer next year if the staff feels that Cooper isn't quite ready.

I didn't really have that much confidence Saturday, I figured our D would get run over, and best case it'd be a high-scoring shootout.

I was in the fieldhouse when the team came through. Most of the team was serious & straight-faced. Minshew was bouncing around, relaxed and loose, like he wasn't concerned about anything. Seeing him changed my mind - as calm and confident as he looked, I figured there's no way we were going to lose.

Amen to OP!

OK -- this is putting the cart waaaaaay before the horse, but let's say WSU wins out (going to be very tough) and somehow makes it to #4. We would be matched up against .... you guessed it, the school GM originally committed to as a grad transfer ..... ALABAMA.

Biggs, he was someone that staff (don't claim to know who that was) thought could come in outside the true heartache that had happened and lead the team to victory....no matter what. I'm beginning to believe that CML is really a "mad genius" with his heart and mind in the right place. It didn't hurt that the coaches brought in have made improvements.

I'm not going to say that Minshew is heaven sent, but we are, without a doubt, extremely fortunate that things did not work out for Minshew in the past and that he ended up at WSU. No offense to Tinsley, Gordon, and other QB's on the roster, but this team would not be where it is with them playing the position. We'd probably be 4-3 right now and feeling that we had a shot at getting to a bowl game, but getting the right guy with just the right amount of swagger with a touch of humility, who can move in the pocket a little bit and can read a defense was an amazingly good find for Leach and WSU.

I'm still pumped about our future with Cooper as a QB and it's possible that Tinsley or Gordon will get their chance to start next year, but I agree with the comment comparing him to an American Idol singer that leaves everyone amazed. He's not perfect, but he's been close to perfect for us.

How did this kid not play that much at East Carolina? I don't know much about his back story but I know he didn't start for a while over there.

How did he even get on the radar?

And lets face it, you need some serious swag to pull of wearing a porn mustache, aviators, and a lid on backwards to a press conference.

I figured I would have a better chance of taking a joyride in a flying saucer than us being 6-1 at this point.

His competition at E. Carolina was a Grad transfer from, I think Duke. Kind of strange.

I can't seem to find a video of Minshew crowd surfing. Any help would be welcome....

Meanwhile, East Carolina is 2-5 and their QB has more ints than TDs.

I don't know who their coach is, nor do I care, but he ought to be fired on the spot. This is akin to Kingsbury letting Baker Mayfield walk out the door.

I have posted for years... QB is the worst coached position and most poorly evaluated position in football.

Minshew was underwhelming at East Carolina last year. Someone had mentioned that Minshew was recruited by a coach who ran an air raid offense but was fired and the new coach didn't run that type of offense, so Minshew was a fish out of water. Here is a list of his raw QBR numbers last year:

James Madison: 18.3
West Virginia: 57.2
Virginia Tech: 39.8
UConn: benched
USF: 7.0 (very, very limited play)
Temple: benched
UCF: 27.7 (limited play off bench)
BYU: 88.0 (came off bench)
Houston: 81.1
Tulane: 44.1
Cincy: 92.1
Memphis: 18.0

As you can see, he was a bit schizo last year but played much better overall late in the season after he got out of the doghouse thanks to the other QB getting injured. His QBR numbers this year?

Wyoming: 61.2
SJSU: 77.9
EWU: 73.8
USC: 83.0
Utah: 73.5
OSU: 89.8
UO: 87.8

A much more consistent guy this year. He sucked last year with a system and coach that he wasn't meshing with.

Former Air Raid DC Ruffin McNeill was fired in 2015. Not sure if he's THAT coach (since GMII did JuCo) but someone done and screwed up.
