NIL, the portal, and agents

This is getting far more out of control than I even realized. I heard this from a reliable source in an athletic department that works at a power 5 university, and no WSU is not his employer. There is a Big 10 school that is paying agents just to get kids into the portal, and then if the kid gets an NIL deal the agent gets a percentage of the NIL deal. If one school is doing it I am sure others are as well.

How about a mellow topic - like Immigration

I was never a big "Build the wall" guy, but I'm starting to wonder. Now we have 10's of thousands of Chinese immigrants crossing or trying to. Why can't we stop them? Once they get across the border, we are F-ed. This has got to stop, and these dumbass Dem's are not helping. It's like No! you cannot cross the border! How goddam hard is that, fence or no fence? climb the fence and you are trespassing and we will shoot you on the wire.

And I'm a moderate! But this is insane. It's not Ellis Island in 1901 anymore.

This is how streaming now begins, it starts with the NFL

Yes. the NFL has streamed a few games before, but I do believe this is a first year where playoff games on Saturday are only available by streaming, in a few years most ALL of football will require streaming, For all of those people ( university Presidents) that thought the Apple deal for the pac 12 was a bad deal and needed to have linear, think again.

Streaming is here to stay and growing

The NFL has already started, and now a playoff game is only available by stream and slowly but surely a majority of the football you want to watch will no longer be on linear TV, ESPN and the networks can not continue to pay what they are paying the leagues and the colleges, and college football is next as more and more people cut cable the networks incomes are cut. They need another source of revenue, and streaming is the long-term answer.

Boise State lands 5-star USC QB Malachi Nelson

I've said before that the Mountain West, or soon to be, PacWest conference is well positioned to establish itself as the top G5 in the Nation. Boise State, SDSU, Fresno, Air Force, WSU, and Oregon State will provide the new conference with a solid top-6. Many kids are still going to factor in playing time when deciding on transfer destinations, and if you're a West coast kid not getting love from USC, UW, or Oregon, you're going to look at the PacWest.

This year was an anomaly for the P12, which was particularly strong, but in most seasons, the 6 programs listed above would comfortably compete, if not beat Cal, Stanford, Colorado, UCLA, ASU, and Arizona in football.

Other Media is in Trouble Also

An amazing drop in one of the Nation's oldest and largest newspapers. Looks like they are really in trouble. Of course, this has been happening all over on a large scale, as large and small daily (and weekly) papers have been doing layoffs, cutting costs, eliminating days of delivery, and RAISING prices. Locally, the CDA Press has eliminated the Monday delivery, and the Spokesman-Review has eliminated the Saturday delivery. Also, the SR has increased the annual subscription price by a factor of 3 to 4 in a period of only a few years, probably about 5-6 years. I reached my breaking point with them, dropped my subscription last spring.

OT - China

I think I've brought this up before - but it slays me that we do all this saber rattling with China, prepare to defend Taiwan, etc., but we still buy all their shit. So here we have Xi admitting to their economic woes. OK, how about everybody in the US take a pause from buying anything made in China for a couple of months and really put them in a dive. That would be tough because they produce G-D near everything we use or wear.

The State of Broadcast Television

The visual from the Top 100 chart is staggering. I had no idea that things were THIS bad, although I think it has been over two decades since I have watched any ongoing show on a major network. As a leader in this regard, I guess a lot of the networks problems are my fault. I am truly sorry for that.........

Does this help explain why it was so tough for the PAC 12 to get a "good" media deal, or make it more puzzling why we were not able to get the media deal done?
