On Abe Lucas

A third round selection last year, Abe has started all but last week's game this year. In mid-October I read that in 186 snaps he had only one sack.

So today I elected to key on him in today's Seahawk game, running plays over again to spotlight his play.

Run blocking -- did an effective job throughtout the afternoon. On the few trap plays he was successful. Surprisngly only ran his holes once today, and that was at the end of the game for a beauty that kept them in it. He didn't move any defenders, but neutralized them. I did not see a play where he was tasked with sealing linebackers. I also didn't see a wide split or a pull so can't evaluate those.

Pass blocking -- competant quickness; not overpowered or beaten the entire game. Held his ground well and not once did anyone get around him. Strong enough not to be moved around or driven back. He was quick and agile enough to succesfuly pull off 45 degree sets, and was not defeated in his vertical sets. Zero pressures and and zero sacks.

He held his blocks. Only saw one hold. Not penalized in this game.

I can't comment on techniques as I don't know enough about those criteria.

No way to know how he graded today, but he looked like he belonged as a starter.

Arbuckle Announcement

Wondering why the delay in announcing/introducing Arbuckle as our next OC? He's been on campus for a few days now. There are a lot of quality offensive players in the portal that would likely be interested in playing in his system. I'm sure there is a process including background checks, among other things but let's announce his hire and generate some interest in WSU football, especially amongst those who are looking for a new home.

Wazzu adds three transfers

Washington State is utilizing the brief transfer visit window to make some late pre-spring additions to the roster today. The Cougs have added three transfers in a matter of minutes this afternoon. UNLV transfer receiver Kyle Williams is currently rated as the No. 242 transfer by Rivals. Maryland linebacker Ahmad McCullough is currently rated as the No. 282 transfer by Rivals. Both are three-star prospects. In addition to that duo, Wazzu has also added a commitment from Fresno State receiver Josh Kelly.

Loss to ASU

Mildly surprised to see there was no thread or mention of last night's 6-point loss at ASU. I guess I could've started one had I thought of it. Anyway, sounds like they made a good run near the end to close it to a 3-point deficit and then several chances to get even closer but couldn't break through. Big games for Rodman and Mullins but need more consistency out of Bamba and Gueye. As mentioned so many times, Dishon Jackson would have helped so much & would have taken a lot of pressure off Gueye. I see even Jack Wilson got some action last night. That's how thin things are up front. Arizona nearly lost to UW and I don't expect them to have a let down after a close game. Wins and losses are not the thing to worry about this year for WSU....just looking for continued improvement from such a young team.

Glad Cougar

Spring Football

As a new OC comes in, its time to let the QB's compete for their job. Cam Ward was brilliant at times and at other times absolutely infuriating. He was so Jekyll and Hyde with his play that it became unbearable to watch especially in the bowl game. I understand that we had a lot of opt-outs, portal casualties and our OC took off, but it was just too damn ugly. We need to bring in a Portal QB and let Ward, Mateer and whoever else they bring in duke it out to be the #1.

If you could change just ONE in-game rule from CFB...

...what would it be? Not talking about roster or coaching/transfer/recruiting changes.

Discussed in a game thread this season, but mine would be the notion that a defender (DB) must turn around to "play" the ball. I acknowledge there have been legitimate applications of this rule, but one thing I've seen a lot this year is a CB called for a back-breaking PI because the QB underthrew the ball, it hit the CB in the back, and now the offense is rewarded with +15 yards and a 1st down for a ball thrown so badly it should have been intercepted. IMO there isn't even a "spirit of the law" rationale for that scenario.

Lots of other good possibilities around targeting, # timeouts and clock stoppages, substitutions, etc.

The Moscow killings part II

I probably have more questions than even guesses to the answers.

And I am sure in good time those answers will come out .

Was the DNA first then the car ? My guess is not because if they had DNA and they probably could do a search and know he is on campus .

If the car came first, did his roommates or neighbors call in and said there is a white Elantra in our parking lot?

It sounds like he was on campus until close to finals which was the 16th… the car seems to have been in Pullman at least five days before break . Did the police and fbi have him as a suspect at that point and simply further investigation before they spoke to him?

I am curious how soon he was in their sights and of they normally hold off for dna before questioning him if that was his car in Moscow that night ?

In terms of the death penalty … I could be wrong on the following thought process, but his parents don’t appear to have enough money to buy him an attorney .

I would suspect any attorney if they had this mounting evidence will see if they can get a plea deal for reasons of motives . I would think the prosecutors would seek at least an opinion or thoughts from the families .

The crime seems way too violent not to be personal and simply trying to feel what it feels like to kill someone .

Knowing all appeals it would take what 20 years to put him nite nite ? Is there incentive to plea from the states side to forgo expenses and at same time the subject would get incentive to plea with all the evidence .

Maybe I need to watch more dateline with my wife but her shows tend to focus on how to get rid of a husband .

I am sure I will get these answer soon enough.

ESPN Article on Coaches' Sideline Paranoia

Nice Leach anecdote in here. More generally, this is another major factor cutting in favor of the IPF for me. As someone is quoted saying in the article, follow the money. I've thought for years that UW easily could have a mole watching, and perhaps even recording, practices on Rogers. Not saying it definitely happens, but think about all the cross-pollination of grad students, friends, etc. ... even Christian Caple, a huge UW apologist (and alumnus, as I recall) who hated WSU, was a WSU grad student. Really that crazy to think the week before Apple Cup, at least, they couldn't have someone in the library? So they'll spend tens of millions of dollars on a staff and recruiting expenses, in the context of a multi-billion $ industry, but nobody thinks it's possible some kid is paid $10k to record practices?

Pac-12 media rights deal rumor from the Athletic

This was from a week or so ago...

I do like the idea of having CBS in the fold for some added primetime exposure.

The other piece of the puzzle is how the conference handles the Pac-12 networks. Would have JV with Amazon? Sell to Amazon?

I also noticed the NHL (hockey) is rumored to be plunging into streaming more readily. I think going slow is a good strategy move by the conference.

“ESPN will be prepared to split the Pac-12’s media rights with Amazon, but will not offer the conference significantly more than it pays for the Big 12. That will lead the Pac-12 to sell almost its entire media package to Amazon for a price that is slightly higher than what the Big 12 gets from ESPN and Fox. The Pac-12 will carve out a handful of prime-time football games that it then will sell to CBS.”

Fresno State

Feeling what it’s like to be WSU. Should just count their blessings it wasn’t before the LA Bowl for them. Bunch of players entering portal, and OC headed to Mizzou. Guys they thought might go NFL or return are looking at the portal. I hate to say haha, but heard a bunch of stop complaining and do better from their fans when our team was basically wiped out.
